Today we, the youth, are disproportionately affected by some of our country's toughest development challenges. However, we also hold unique aspirations, energy, and ideas that can create impactful change in all sectors. The question is: how can we jumpstart our leadership as early as now?
Here are four ways for you to activate your leadership potential:
1. Support your local government's activities
Talk to your Sangguniang Kabataan, barangay, municipal or city, or provincial government and see if there are activities you can dedicate your time and resources to. Your LGU will have increased funding right now, meaning more community programs you can participate in. Check your local government's socials or ask about activities you can join!
2. Volunteer or intern
Find an organization with a cause close to your heart with a set-up that suits you (online, hybrid, or onsite). All year round, volunteering and internship opportunities are open in various companies, government agencies, and civil society organizations which is a perfect way to give back, hone your leadership skills, and network with people in the sector. Email them or reach them via their socials to show your interest. If you wish to intern with Limitless Lab, you may apply here: tinyurl.com/LL-Internship
3. Sign up for learning and networking opportunities
Seek out different courses, workshops, training, and other opportunities via the development organizations' socials or other platforms! You don't need to enroll in a development-related program or pay out of pocket to get educated and connected. Many sites offer these opportunities for free! You can also join different online communities to meet and learn from new people in the sector! If you wish to be part of the Limitless Lab Open Community, you may join here: LL Facebook Open Community
4. Create your campaign or organization
Assemble a group of young people who share the same passion as you. You can do this in school, your LGU, or even on national and international platforms! If you want to start a nonprofit or an enterprise, you can join incubators to develop your product or service and even register it in the future!
As a young person, you can already get your foot in the door and make your voice heard in the room where it happens. Keep in mind that not all youth have the privilege to maximize their participation and pursue leadership roles. If you do, grab the chance and make it easier for these other young people to get involved now and in the future. It's time for YOUth to take charge!
